RISO MEMBER Technical Induction Sep

This technical session is designed for those with some previous Riso experience who wish to become a WYPW Riso Member and use the machine independently at our Mirfield workshop. This is not a creative session, if you wish to learn how to work with the Risograph printing process and develop artwork for it please sign up to one of our Riso workshops or one of our Intro to Riso sessions which are scheduled regularly.

Using a selection of stock images, we’ll guide you through the essential technical basics to set up and utilise our Risograph machine. Learn how to adjust settings, set up the machine, make smart colour choices, and experiment with different paper stocks.

With a maximum of x4 participants per session; you’ll receive plenty of 1:1 support, time to ask questions and gain tailored advice. By the end, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to make the most of your membership with us and get printing!

You will end the induction with the following knowledge:

• What studio membership is and how it works
• How to book a session to come and use the Riso and studio space independently.
• Be able to change drums safely and correctly.
• Know how to use the different Riso settings to create the best printed outcome for your images.
• Understand how to print both analogue and digital images via the Riso.
• Understand how different paper stock + weights effect the outcome of a print.
• Be able to safely and correctly remove paper jams.
• Be able to clean the paper-feed roller to avoid ink smudges.
• Feel comfortable with the layout of the WYPW Mirfield space and the health and safety aspects of working in the studio as a member.

Experience level

This session is for those with prior understanding and previous experience of creating work using the RISO-graph printer. This is a TECHNICAL workshop and will not cover the creation of artwork or consideration for colour separation. What’s included?

All course prices include basic materials such as paper, tools and equipment. Each person gets 2 masters, around 10 sheets of recycled cartridge paper and CMYK inks for tests/proofs.

Cancellation Policy:

• If you have to cancel:

If you are unable to attend your booked course, we may accept the fee paid as payment towards a place on the same or another course that takes place within the same financial year (running 1 April-31 March) following the originally booked event. Such a transfer will be on condition that we are informed in writing of your intentions four weeks prior to the originally booked event. Bookings can only be transferred once. If you are unable to attend, and not in a position either to transfer to another event, then the following charges will apply: Cancellation charges

• 16-12 weeks before the course: 50 % of the fee will be retained by WYPW
• Less than 12 weeks before the course: 100% of the fee will be retained by WYPW
• Please note that full payment is required for non-attendance on a booking that has been transferred.

• If we have to cancel:

West Yorkshire Print Workshop reserves the right to cancel or re-arrange courses if there are insufficient participants enrolled to run a viable course or for other unforeseen circumstances. We will do our best to give those who have already enrolled at least one weeks’ notice of cancellation. In such circumstances you will be offered a free transfer to another course date or a full refund of fees paid. By enrolling in our courses, participants agree to abide by the terms and conditions outlined above.
