This short day workshop will introduce you to the process of printing with lino cut blocks onto fabric. If you’re a secondary school teacher, educator or facilitator looking for a process to use in classrooms or pass on to others without the need of a press then this workshop would work for you! If not, perhaps you’re a crafter looking to personalise or develop your own textile items for business or pleasure in which case come along and learn more.
Over the duration of the session you will explore multi-coloured relief printing onto cloth using your own designed and carved lino block. There will be examples supplied to show the process which will assist you in understanding the theory of the reduction technique and prepare you for planning and cutting your design out of the lino. Aiming to produce a three coloured print working from the lightest colour section through to the darkest tone, each section during the reduction process will be registered onto the fabric and your image can applied using your own pressure wherever you fancy. The block can be re-inked and reprinted in the same colour or cleaned and another colourway chosen before moving onto the next cutting stage – so lots of flexibility in terms of how you might approach this!
This course aims to guide you through the reduction process and highlight the versatility of this printing method using textile block printing inks. Two Tote bags are supplied or bring along your own fabric (cotton, polyester blends, linen, rayon) if you’d prefer.
