Explore the wonderful world of colour mixing by layering different shades using simple hand cut stencil screen prints! Starting with basic colour theory, this workshop will see you analyse how other printmakers have used colour and look at how you can use contextual reference to develop your own colour palettes through mixing system 3 inks and print medium.
As a print-maker; how might you use colour to make an impact, to express a mood and/or make a statement in your screen printed work? How do you approach working with and mixing colours? Are you intuitive or do you feel you struggle to make decisions when developing a palette to work with? All questions to consider and explore as you develop your individual hand as a printer.
During the workshop you will develop colourful screen printed squares and explore over-printing and the possibilities of producing 7 colours from 3 colours on paper or fabric!
For Beginners or Intermediates
Previous experience of screen printing is useful but not essential for this course, and beginners can be accommodated, along with those who need a refresher. The course is perfect for those who already use screen printing in their work and would like to develop their use of colour.
Your tutor: Clare Grace
Clare Grace is a surface pattern/printed textile designer and printmaker based at WYPW. She has taught colour at art colleges and has also run professional development sessions in colour for Tigerprint (Division of Hallmark PLC). Designing fashion and furnishing fabrics requires a good understanding of colour – producing many colour ways for one design, and having to work with colour trends is challenging and exciting.
All course prices include basic materials such as inks, paper, tools and equipment. Other materials and printmaking papers will be available to buy during the course if you would like to try something a bit different, or take some materials home to try out.
Want to carry on screen printing? As some of the process will have been done for you on this workshop, we would recommend that beginners also attend one of our weekend courses for more in-depth training before joining as a member to use the facilities. Feel free to give us a call to discuss your options. Find out more about membership here: https://www.wypw.org/shop/standard-membership/
