Bookbinding for Beginners

Description

This day workshop will introduce you to three basic book structures. These form the foundation for further, more advanced processes. During the workshop you will be taught the correct terminology and alongside the hands on tutorial Roger will also throw in a few tricks of the trade!

Itinerary :

Over the course of the session you will have completed three notebooks: 

• A single section hardback notebook. Quarter bound in cloth, paper sides and cut flush edges. 

• A single section hardback notebook. Quarter bound in cloth, paper sides and case bound with ‘squares’ (little lip round the edge). 

• A soft back notebook with pre-foiled cover.

What’s included?

All basic materials such as paper, tools and equipment are provided.

Your tutor : Roger Grech

Roger Grech is a Bookbinder and Printmaker, with over 20 years experience. He currently works as an Edition Binder at Stephen Conway Bookbinders Ltd in Halifax. Roger also runs his own workshop, Papercut Bindery, where he binds bespoke journals, small print run editions and undertakes repair work on old well loved bindings.

Experience level :

No previous experience is needed for this course and beginners are welcome along with those who have more experience and are looking to develop how they work or need to refresh their memory!
