2 September – 7 October 2023

A new exhibition curated by West Yorkshire Print Workshop

Climate Change is the greatest challenge our planet has ever faced. As our landscapes, weather and way of life changes with it, we ask questions about how we live and reflect on the passing of time and our changing landscape and relationship with it.

For Our World, Our Crisis: A Response we invited West Yorkshire Print Workshop members to visit and respond to the ideas and themes in an exhibition of prints, textiles, and film responding to our changing relationship with the natural world and the current climate crisis on display at The Point, Doncaster in spring 2023.

Members were invited to reflect on their own experiences of the climate crisis and how the environment and landscape around them have changed over time due to climate change. The prints they have produced in response include highlighting the dwindling abundance of marine life due to pollution and the changing topography as the modern world encroaches evermore into natural environments.

West Yorkshire Print Workshop is committed to monitoring and reducing our impact on the environment and carbon footprint. Encouraging our staff, members, and studio holders to be more aware of the impact their activity has on the environment.

Featuring artwork by West Yorkshire Print Workshop members: John Lewis, Julie Turner, Susan Wright, and Graham Riding, alongside work from the original exhibition by Clare Carter, Sarah Duncan, and Jemma Gunning.

Clare Alton-Fletcher, Director at West Yorkshire Print Workshop (the biggest open access printmaking workshop in Yorkshire based in Mirfield and Huddersfield – think rollers, presses, inks and hand pulled original prints) says, “We are thrilled to have such talented artists take part in this

exhibition drawing attention to our changing landscapes and our changing relationship with our climate and world around us. The WYPW members have produced a thought provoking response to the original exhibition at the Point Gallery.” The exhibition is attempting to reduce its own carbon footprint with the use of recycled paper for exhibition information, environmentally friendly exhibition panels and off-setting carbon emissions created to get the works to the gallery by planting a new dye garden in Mirfield and reducing energy usage at the workshop itself in 2023.
