We’re excited to reveal the expert panel of judges for the Flourish Award 2025! Each year, Flourish showcases the best in printmaking across the UK, and our panel of distinguished judges plays a crucial role in selecting the most outstanding artists.

Who Are the Judges for Flourish 2025?

This year’s panel brings together leading printmakers, curators, and arts professionals, each offering unique expertise and insight into contemporary printmaking.

Here’s a closer look at the judges:

Yasmin Canvin – Exhibitions Curator & Arts Director

With a diverse heritage of Pakistani, German, and British backgrounds, Yasmin Canvin is dedicated to creating meaningful connections between artists and audiences. She presents work from different cultural and international perspectives, often exploring social and environmental issues through cross-disciplinary practice.

Currently the Exhibitions Curator at the Herbert Museum & Art Gallery, Yasmin has curated exhibitions at prestigious venues including Angel Row Gallery, Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery, the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art, and Dundee Museum & Art Gallery. She has also led a professional development programme for culturally diverse curators and served as Director of Fermynwoods Contemporary Art and Leicester Print Workshop.

Grant Scanlan – Art Curator & Judge

Originally from the Lake District, Grant Scanlan studied the history and theory of art and design before embarking on a career as a curator. Since the mid-1990s, he has worked in museums and galleries across London, the East Midlands, and Yorkshire.

Since 2011, Grant has managed and programmed Huddersfield Art Gallery, which is undergoing major redevelopment as part of Kirklees Council’s Our Cultural Heart regeneration scheme. He has extensive judging experience, serving as a panellist for the Contemporary British Painting Prize since 2017, the New Light Prize, and as a regular judge for the Flourish Award for printmaking.

Lucy May Schofield – Award-Winning Printmaker & Artist

Lucy May Schofield is a Lincolnshire-born artist who now works within the vast landscapes of rural Northumberland. A graduate of the London College of Printing, she later trained in water-based woodcut (Mokuhanga) and book arts at MI-LAB in Japan. She is an elected Associate Member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers.

Lucy has exhibited internationally, with shows at Kentler International Drawing Space (Brooklyn, New York), 3331 Arts Chiyoda (Tokyo), and the RWA (Bristol). Her work is held in major collections such as Tate Britain, The Ashmolean Museum, and the Yale Centre for British Art.

Notably, she was the winner of the Flourish Award in 2020 and recently received a fellowship at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice. She is also a founding member of the Mokuhanga Sisters collective, an international artist group curating and exhibiting globally. Her practice explores a deep connection to nature, time, and materiality, reflecting on human impermanence through print and paper-based performance.

How Will the Judging Process Work?

First Round: All submissions will be reviewed online, with judges evaluating digital images and artist statements.
Shortlisting: The judges will meet in person to then shortlist the top 10–15 printmakers who will be invited to exhibit their work.
Final Selection: Judges will review the shortlisted works in person at the Flourish Award exhibition before selecting the overall winner.
