What is the Flourish Award?

The Flourish Award for Excellence in Printmaking has been running for 14 years, celebrating the creativity, skill, and innovation of UK-based printmakers. The competition is open to artists working in traditional handmade printmaking techniques such as relief print, intaglio, screen print, lithography, and more.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to showcase their work in a national exhibition, with the winner receiving a significant development opportunity and industry recognition.

Where do I apply?

Applications must be submitted via our Curator Space page. Click the link below to access full details and submit your entry:

When is the deadline to apply?

The final deadline is midnight on Sunday, 20 April 2025.

Early bird discount: Apply before 31 March 2025 to pay a reduced fee of £15 instead of £20.

Who can apply?

The Flourish Award is open to any printmaker based in the UK creating hand-made prints using traditional methods (e.g., etching, linocut, screen print).

Please note: Digital prints (except for Risograph) are only accepted if combined with traditional techniques.

Student/Recent Graduate Award: To qualify, you must be currently studying in the UK or have graduated since 2023 and still be based in the UK.

How many works can I submit?

Each artist can submit up to three individual pieces.

For works with multiple parts (e.g., a triptych), each part counts as an individual submission.

Each artist/printmaker may only apply once.

How much does it cost to apply? How do I pay?

The submission fee is £20.

How is the work selected?

A panel of independent judges—including printmakers, curators, and arts professionals—will assess submissions based on:

• Creativity and originality
• Technical ability
• Use of materials
• Overall impact

Selection process:

1. First round – Judges review digital images and artist statements online.
2. Second round – The top 10–15 shortlisted artists will be invited to exhibit their work. Judges will view these works in person to determine the winners.

When will I know if I’m shortlisted?

We aim to notify all applicants by 30 May 2025. If there are a high number of entries, this process may take longer, but we will update all applicants.
